Domain Name Settings

How to Properly Set-up your Domain Name:

It’s really quick and easy to do this the right way. Please follow these instructions so your site performs the way it should!

Ok, you have “purchased” your domain name with a “Registrar” like GoDaddy or Network Solutions.
If you don’t know who your registrar is, you can:

  • Do a “WHOIS Lookup” for your domain name(s) https://www.whois.com/whois/
  • Type your domain name in the box and it should tell you who the registrar is. Please call (Network Solutions 800-577-3266) (GoDaddy 480-505-8877) or your registrar.
  • Sometimes you will have the name pointing to different Name Servers. In that case, the company with those Name Servers will have to change the A-Record.
  • We’ll help you figure this out. This is not something that you do every day – even if you are an IT guy. Don’t worry – it’s easy! Please ask us if you have any questions!

Now, call your domain name register.

  • Tell them that you are not very technical and ask them if they could please change your A-Record IP Address. (They do this all-day-long and it will take them just a few minutes)
  • * The A-Record IP Address should be: 141.193.213.10
  • * Instruct them to set up a 2nd A-Record IP Address of: 141.193.213.11
  • Most Registrars DO NOT NEED a CNAME Entry – ask them. If they do it’s  wp.wpenginepowered.com If you had a CNAME set up with your old website – please remove it.
  • You DO NOT need to modify your MAIL or MX Records. This may disrupt your email. (That is why we tell you to have the Registrar make the changes)

After you make these changes, you will typically see your new site live within a few hours. Worst case, it should take no longer than 24 hours.

What is Propagation and How Long Does it Take? Name server changes usually take 24 to 48 hours to fully start working. This period, called propagation, is the projected length of time it takes for root name servers and cache records across the entire web to be updated with your website’s DNS information.
